I know all of those tenants very well. But as I entered the real world myself, I witnessed how the Republican Party and MAGA movement dove headfirst into cruelty, hatred, and authoritarian ideology. While still using veils of faith to pander for votes. Simultaneously, I watched as much of the Democratic establishment abandoned working people and capitulated to corporate interests.That’s why I’m running for the Alabama State House of Representatives. Because we need strong, honest, progressive change that works from the bottom up, not the top down. If you're one of the many Alabamians struggling to afford your basic needs, feeling left behind, angry about what is happening in Montgomery, or worried about the direction of our state and nation, I am fighting with and for you.I've had a very non-traditional path in life. After high school, I attended Auburn University before transferring to Birmingham to study at Highlands College where I graduated with a certificate in 2019. After graduating, I began working full-time and have done so ever since while also taking classes towards my bachelor's degree. I have worked in auto shops, in warehouses, retail management, a law firm, and general aviation. My entire life has been in the working class, experiencing firsthand how we are all increasingly struggling to afford housing, healthcare, and the basic cost of living all while politicians in Montgomery and Washington get rich and ignore real people.I am currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in Political Science through Colorado State University online while working full-time. I believe Alabama’s future depends on electing leaders who actually live in the world their policies create. We need younger, forward-thinking representatives who understand what working families are going through.As your representative, I’ll fight for expanded healthcare and education, fair wages, and a government that’s transparent and accountable to the people. My main priorities focus around expanding healthcare access, investing in education, and empowering the working class and unions. But I will also work hard to bolster mental health lifelines, ensure equality for every Alabamian, legalize and regulate marijuana, establish a state lottery, protect Alabama's natural resources, bolster democracy and accountability in our elections, protect our privacy, eliminate property taxes for personal home owners, and protect renters and homeowners from corporate abuse. I believe it comes from listening, being honest and authentic, and doing what’s right even when it’s hard. My goal is to be the most open and accessible member of the Alabama State House and someone who always puts people before politics.My wife Savannah and I live in District 43 with our two dachshunds, Ginger and Leisl. When I’m not working or studying, I love spending time outdoors, particularly at Oak Mountain State Park which holds a special place in my heart. Some other interesting things about me are that I have a little over 38 flight hours in a Cessna 172, I've been on a commercial flight that lost an engine, I've run three half-marathons (that makes a full marathon and a half right?), climbed to 17,300+ feet on Mount Kilimanjaro (quite a story this one), and completed a Death by 5K ultramarathon right here at Oak Mountain (I'm exhausted just remembering it).I’m running because I believe Alabama deserves better. It’s time for new leadership in our state. Leadership that listens, tells the truth, is accessible, and fights for every day Alabamians.

<h3>Building An Education System For Every Child, Not Just The Privileged.</h3>Every child in Alabama deserves a world-class education, no matter their zip code, background, or family income. Our schools are the foundation of our communities and the key to a stronger, fairer economy. But for far too long, Alabama has underfunded its teachers, neglected its classrooms, and treated education like an afterthought. That has to end now.A strong Alabama starts with strong public schools. I’ll fight to fully fund K–12 education, raise teacher pay, modernize classrooms, support special needs programs, and ensure every single student has the resources they need to succeed. But learning shouldn’t end at graduation. That’s why I support raising revenue by taxing the rich and expanding our economy so we can guarantee every Alabamian the opportunity to attend community college and technical trade school tuition-free.I believe education is the foundation of everything. It’s the great equalizer that opens doors and transforms lives. We don’t need small, cosmetic changes. Alabama ranks near the bottom in education in nearly every national metric. We need bold, monumental changes. Our schools should be centers of pride and excellence. Our teachers should be among the best paid and most respected professionals in the country. Education should absolutely be one of Alabama’s biggest investments, and fully accessible to every resident.By investing in our students, teachers, and workforce, we can build a stronger economy where opportunity belongs to everyone, not just the wealthy few.I’m a proud product of Alabama’s public school system. I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. But I’ve also seen its shortfalls firsthand. Education is the silver bullet. It’s not just an investment in our children, but an investment in Alabama’s future. Let’s build a state where every child can learn, grow, and succeed.When I'm elected, I'll fight for these changes in our education system:<ul><li>Fully Funded Public Schools: Our public schools should be places where students can learn and teachers can teach. Teachers shouldn’t be forced to buy classroom supplies out of pocket or work second jobs just to survive. I’ll fight for real, sustained investment in public education, including higher teacher pay, smaller class sizes, modern technology in every classroom, and safe, well-maintained school facilities that everyone can be proud of.</li><li>Protect Public Education: Public education is a public good. I oppose voucher programs and privatization efforts that take funding away from public schools and funnel taxpayer dollars into unaccountable private institutions that ultimately subsidize wealthy families who don't need it. Public dollars belong in public classrooms, strengthening neighborhood schools and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to a quality education.</li><li>Increase Teacher Standards and Pay: If we want the best outcomes for our students, we need to attract and retain the best educators. That means raising teacher pay to be competitive nationally, strengthening teacher preparation and professional development programs, increasing standards, and giving educators an actual seat at the table when education policy is made. Teaching should be a respected, well-compensated profession, not a financial sacrifice.</li><li>Invest in Career &amp; Technical Education: College isn’t the only path to success, and students deserve real choices. I support expanding career and technical education programs that connect students to hands-on training, union apprenticeships, and high-demand local industries. These programs help prepare students for stable, well-paying careers while meeting the workforce needs of our communities.</li><li>Tuition-Free Community College &amp; Technical Training: Education beyond high school should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford it. I support raising revenue by taxing the rich and expanding our economy so we can guarantee tuition-free access to community colleges and technical trade schools for all Alabamians. This investment will strengthen our workforce, reduce student debt, and empower more Alabamians to buy homes, start businesses, and strengthen our economy from the ground up.</li><li>Support for Special Needs Education: Every child deserves the resources and support they need to succeed. I’ll advocate for increased funding for special education from early childhood through high school, including proper staffing levels, higher pay, and ongoing training for special education teachers and paraprofessionals. Families should also have access to clear information, advocacy support, and essential services so that no child is neglected.</li><li>Expand Mental Health Support in Schools: Too many students struggle in silence because schools lack the resources to meet their mental health needs. I will fight to fund more on-site counselors, psychologists, and support staff in every school, while ensuring teachers receive training to recognize and respond to mental health challenges early. Supporting the mental health of students is essential to academic success and lifelong health outcomes.</li><li>Guarantee Meals for All Students: This one is simple. A child can't learn if they are hungry. I support ending lunch debt and guaranteeing meals for all students throughout the school year. Meeting the basic needs of students isn’t charity, it’s a moral imperative and a necessary investment in their health, focus, and future success.</li><li>Close the Digital Divide: In today’s digital age, reliable internet access is essential for education. Yet many rural and low-income communities in Alabama are still left behind. I’ll continue pushing for statewide broadband expansion so every student, no matter where they live, has equal access to online learning, homework resources, and educational opportunities. In addition, we have to continue to explore the negative effects of social media and the internet on our student learning outcomes.</li></ul>

Students deserve schools that give them a real chance to succeed. I’ll work to fully fund public schools, raise teacher pay, expand special education funding, and make community college and technical training tuition free.

<h3>Building A Democracy For The People, Not The Powerful.</h3>Alabama deserves a fair government that works for the people, not the powerful. For too long, our state’s laws and elections have been shaped by big money, insider politics, and partisan gerrymandering instead of the voices of everyday Alabamians. Our democracy only works when it’s accountable to the people it represents, and right now, Montgomery is not working for us.It’s time to bring transparency, fairness, and real competition back to our elections. That starts with making sure the vote of every Alabamian counts equally, every candidate earns their support honestly, and every elected official serves with integrity, not self-interest.We can have a government that’s open, responsive, and truly representative of the people of Alabama and not the wealthy few, political insiders, or those who rig the system. Our democracy in Alabama is only as strong as the people who defend it. Let’s end corruption, restore trust, and build a government that truly represents all of us.In the state legislature, I will fight for these democratic reforms:<ul><li>Ranked Choice Voting: Voters deserve the freedom to fully express their preferences and not be forced to decide between two candidates they may not like. Ranked choice voting allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference, ensuring that elections are more fair, more democratic, and less polarized. It encourages candidates to build broad support, focus on actual issues, and appeal to a wide range of voters.</li><li>End Straight-Ticket Voting: Straight-ticket voting discourages educated, thoughtful participation and weakens accountability. Every candidate should earn their votes on their own merits and not ride the coattails of a political party. Abolishing straight-ticket voting will encourage voters to engage more deeply with local races and help restore focus on the people we are electing, not the national brand of a party.</li><li>Independent Redistricting: Representatives shouldn’t get to pick their voters, voters should pick their representatives. Alabama is constantly losing court battles over unfair redistricting practices that disenfranchises groups of voters. This has to end. I support creating an independent redistricting commission made up of out-of-state experts with no political or financial ties to Alabama. This will ensure our districts are drawn fairly, transparently, and free from partisan manipulation while giving every Alabamian equal representation.</li><li>Campaign Finance Reform: Alabama’s elections shouldn’t be for sale to the highest bidder. You shouldn't have to put down thousands of dollars to buy yourself onto a ballot in an election. I’ll push for strong campaign finance reforms that limit the influence of dark money and corporate PACs, requires full transparency for political spending, and encourages small, grassroots donations from everyday citizens. Our elections should be powered by people, not profit.</li><li>Protect and Expand Voting Rights: Every eligible voter should be able to cast their ballot easily, securely, and confidently. I will work to expand early and mail-in voting, modernize same-day and automatic voter registration, ensure polling places are accessible to all voters, and strengthen election security while protecting ballot access. Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy and it should be easier, not harder, to participate.</li><li>End Corruption in Montgomery: Alabamians are tired of backroom deals and political favoritism. I’ll fight to strengthen ethics laws and oversight, require public transparency for all legislative spending and lobbying, and enforce strict conflict-of-interest rules for elected officials. Public service should mean exactly that, serving the people.</li><li>Legislative Term Limits: Alabama’s politics have been continually dominated by career politicians who have grown comfortable with power and complacent with the people they represent. I support establishing term limits for both chambers of the Alabama Legislature to ensure continuous renewal and accountability in government. No one should make a lifelong career out of holding one public office. Serving in the Legislature is just that, public service. Not a career. And I believe in leading by example. That’s why I pledge to serve no more than 3 terms in the Alabama State House of Representatives. My goal isn’t to build a career as a legislator, I have absolutely no desire for that. I am running to make a difference in this moment, fight for working Alabamians, and pass the torch to the next generation of leaders ready to serve.</li><li>Ban Stock Trading for Elected Officials in State Government: I support a full ban on stock trading for all state elected officials and senior government appointees. No lawmaker should profit from the decisions they make in office, period. I would work to require officials to place assets in a blind trust, eliminate conflicts of interest, and restore trust in a system that has been tilted toward the well-connected for far too long. Public service should be about service, not self-enrichment.</li><li>People Over Politics: Our leaders have spent decades protecting the powerful and not the people who put them in office. It’s time for a new generation of leadership. One that listens, one that works, and one that fights for working Alabamians. Elected officials should serve the people, not the powerful.</li></ul>

Alabama deserves a government that works for the people, not the powerful. I'll fight for ranked-choice voting, independent redistricting, ending straight-ticket voting, and campaign finance reform so that every vote counts.

<h3>Building An Economy For Working People, Not The Powerful</h3>For too long, Alabama’s economy has worked from the top down, serving the wealthy and major corporate interests while leaving working families and small businesses to fight for what’s left. It’s time we built an economy that works for everyday people, where prosperity is available to all and hard work is actually rewarded.That means fair wages, stronger unions, and real investment in local businesses, not tax breaks for multinational corporations. It means building a better tax structure where the wealthiest among us actually pay their fair share. It means giving small business owners the same opportunities as the big guys, and ensuring every worker has dignity, security, and a voice on the job.We can’t keep relying on Washington to bail our state out. Alabama receives more federal aid than we contribute in tax dollars. This is a sign not of strength, but of how our state’s leaders have continually failed to build a self-sustaining economy. With the current administration in DC, that federal support is evaporating and far from guaranteed. We need to take our future into our own hands by investing in our people, our workers, and our small businesses.Alabamians are strong, hard working, and dream big. It’s time our economy reflected that by putting people, labor, and small businesses at the center of everything we do.These are some of the solutions that I will pursue in the legislature:<ul><li>Build a Truly Fair Tax Structure: Alabama’s tax system is upside down. Working families pay a higher share of their income in state and local taxes than the wealthiest Alabamians because we rely heavily on sales taxes and a nearly flat income tax. We need to raise revenue by taxing the wealthiest among us fairly, not by draining those who are already struggling. By asking the richest Alabamians to pay their fair share, we can invest in healthcare, education, and public services without increasing the burden on working people.</li><li>Empower Workers &amp; Support Unions: When workers have a voice, communities thrive. Every major workplace protection we have today was won through collective organizing, and strong unions will help build a fairer economy in Alabama. I’ll fight to for the right to organize, against union busting, and support fair pay and safe workplaces. Growing good, union jobs leads to higher wages, stronger local economies, and more rights for working people.</li><li>Raise the Minimum Wage: No one working full-time should be living in poverty. I’ll fight for a real minimum wage in Alabama and tie it to inflation so that workers don’t fall behind. Raising wages will strengthen local economies by putting more money into communities. And with gradual, predictable increases and accountability for large corporations, we can raise pay without hurting small businesses.</li><li>End the Grocery Tax: Food is not a luxury. Alabama is one of the only states that still taxes groceries. This places an additional unfair burden on working families. I’ll fight to permanently eliminate the grocery tax and close corporate loopholes so families aren’t punished for buying a basic necessity.</li><li>Lower Energy Costs: We as Alabamians face some of the highest electricity bills in the country, all while utility companies operate with little to no accountability. I’ll fight for stronger oversight, expanded renewable energy access, and explore public power models similar to the TVA. Energy should be a public service, not a profit center. We shouldn’t be paying the price for corporate greed.</li><li>Legalize and Regulate Marijuana: HB445 was a massive step backward that wastes resources, destroys businesses, and harms everyday people. I’ll work to repeal HB445, legalize marijuana for adult use, expunge past non-violent convictions, and regulate the industry responsibly. Legalization will reduce incarceration, create jobs, and generate revenue for healthcare, education, and other services.</li><li>Establish a State Lottery &amp; Legalize Gaming: Alabamians already spend hundreds of millions of dollars on lotteries and gaming in neighboring states. I witnessed this firsthand growing up on the Florida line. Legalizing and regulating gaming along with establishing a state lottery will keep that money here to fund schools, job training, healthcare, and infrastructure.</li><li>Tuition-Free Community College &amp; Technical Training: Education is far and away one of the strongest investments we can make. I’ll work to direct new revenue into an Education Trust that provides tuition-free community college and technical training. This will reduce student debt, strengthen our workforce, and give Alabamians the opportunity to build stable, prosperous futures.</li><li>Universal Daycare: Childcare costs are crushing families and forcing many out of the workforce. I’ll fight to expand access to affordable childcare, fully fund childcare programs, and raise pay for childcare workers. I’ll also support tax relief and assistance for stay-at-home parents. Families that choose to have children deserve options and our support.</li><li>Support Small Business, Not Corporate Monopolies: Small businesses are the backbone of Alabama’s economy, yet many pay higher effective tax rates than multinational corporations. I’ll fight to close loopholes, level the playing field, and invest in local entrepreneurship, apprenticeships, and workforce development. Alabama should be working for small businesses, not profit hungry corporate monopolies.</li><li>Fair Housing, Property Ownership, and Renter Rights: Everyone deserves a fair shot at stable housing. I’ll fight to end personal property taxes for homeowners so people truly own their homes once they’re paid off. Large corporations and investors should pay higher property taxes and contribute fairly to our communities. I’ll also expand access to homeownership, support co-ops and land trusts, and strengthen renter protections against corporate abuse, all while ensuring small, local landlords aren’t crushed by unnecessary red tape. The goal is simple: more homeowners, more local ownership, and fewer absentee corporate landlords.</li></ul>

Alabama’s economy should work for working people, not the wealthy. I’ll fight for strong unions, higher wages, affordable housing, fair taxes, and sensible reforms, while supporting small businesses and holding large corporations accountable.

<h3>Building A Healthcare System For All, Not Just The Few.</h3>Healthcare is not just another policy issue. It's one of the defining challenges facing our society. I have friends and coworkers who have skipped doctor visits, delayed treatment, and missed out on needed medication because they simply couldn’t afford the astronomical cost of care. I’ve watched plenty of people work full-time jobs and still go without insurance. That’s not just unacceptable, it's a moral failure and a complete failure of leadership.Access to healthcare determines whether a child grows up healthy, whether a parent survives an illness, and whether a family stays financially stable. No one should lose everything because they get sick. No one should have to drive hours for basic care. And no one should have to choose between their health and their paycheck.This is why healthcare is at the core of my campaign. Alabama deserves a system built around people, not profits, corporations, or insurance companies. And I’m committed to fighting for a future where every Alabamian can get the care they need, when they need it, without fear or debt.Healthcare is a basic human right, not a privilege tied to job status, income, or ZIP code. I believe Alabama needs to work towards a universal system so that every person can get care without the fear of massive debt or being denied coverage. But we must also face the reality that our state cannot reach that goal overnight. Years of horrible fiscal management by the legislature, underfunding, hospital closures, and a shrinking healthcare workforce means that we need to build the foundation first so we can do it responsibly and correctly.It's time to build a system where everyone can get care when they need it, without debt, denial, or discrimination.These are some of the policies I will work toward in the legislature:<ul><li>Expand Healthcare Access for Every Alabamian: Healthcare is essential, and my ultimate goal is universal health coverage in Alabama. Getting there requires honest, fiscally responsible planning. Not empty promises. I will introduce legislation to create a Joint Task Force on Healthcare Expansion made up of healthcare professionals, policy experts, and financial specialists to develop a realistic, fully funded roadmap to covering every Alabamian over time. While that work is underway, I’ll fight to immediately expand access where we can, modernize our revenue system, and grow Alabama’s economy so broader coverage is sustainable. Universal healthcare is the destination, but responsible, step-by-step progress is the path.</li><li>Fully Expand Medicaid: Alabama’s refusal to expand Medicaid leaves hundreds of thousands uninsured and billions of federal dollars on the table. I will fight to fully expand Medicaid, covering roughly 300,000 more Alabamians, protecting rural hospitals, creating jobs, and cutting the uninsured rate nearly in half. This is the fastest, most cost-effective way to save lives and strengthen our healthcare system.</li><li>Expand Mental Health Services Across Alabama: Mental health care is healthcare. Too many Alabamians, particularly in rural communities, lack access to affordable mental health services. I’ll fight to expand funding for mental health programs, increase school counseling and crisis support, and ensure insurance treats mental health the same as physical health. No one should suffer in silence because help is too hard to find or afford.</li><li>Bring Maternity Care to Shelby County: No family should have to travel long distances to safely give birth, especially in Alabama’s wealthiest county. I will fight to bring maternity services to underserved areas of Shelby County by investing in community and rural hospitals. Safe childbirth should be a basic guarantee, not a gamble down 280.</li><li>Protect Reproductive Freedom and Medical Privacy: Healthcare decisions belong between patients and their doctors, not career politicians in Washington or Montgomery. I will fight to restore reproductive freedom, protect pregnancy outcomes from criminalization, and safeguard access to IVF and fertility care. With one in six people experiencing infertility, families deserve access to care without fear, political interference, or legal uncertainty.</li><li>Cap Prescription Drug Costs and End Price Gouging: No one should be rationing insulin or skipping medication because of outrageous prices. I’ll fight to cap prescription drug costs on the state level, require transparency from pharmaceutical companies, and rein in hospital and insurance price gouging. Life-saving medicine should never be used as a weapon for profit.</li><li>Support Seniors and People with Disabilities: Alabama consistently underfunds long-term care which forces families into impossible choices. I’ll fight to expand in-home care, caregiver support, and community-based services so seniors, people with disabilities, and those who serve them can live with dignity, independence, and security, not isolation or institutionalization.</li></ul>

Everyone deserves access to quality healthcare. I’ll work to expand coverage, lower costs, protect freedoms, and invest in mental health, all with the long term goal of healthcare for all.
